The Food & Environmental Sustainability Collaboratory at Duke seeks to address climate change forces on the resilience and sustainability of the environment and our food system. Agriculture and fisheries are highly dependent on climate, and climate change is already making it more difficult to grow crops, raise animals, and harvest seafood as we have done in the past. Climate change can disrupt food availability, reduce access to food, affect food quality, and disrupt communities and their livelihoods. The impact will be global, regional, and local.
The Collaboratory seeks to develop evidence-based, sustainable solutions that meld public policy, environmental science, economic and sociological analyses, and historical context and learnings from past public policy outcomes. This faculty working group draws researchers and students from disciplines across the Duke and beyond into convergent thinking and problem solving. The Collaboratory emerged out of an Intellectual Community Planning Grant funded by the Office of the Provost.
In Fall 2024, we will launch a distinguished speaker series focused on food system resilience and environmental sustainability.
